Hello again,

A couple weeks ago I did a reading at Books of Wonder on West 18th Street, and despite my shyness and tendency to mumble when speaking in public—or speaking to anyone, for that matter—it was a really great experience. There was a diverse group of other writers, which was interesting, and I got to meet a few readers, which I loved. Writing a book is such a long, intense, and individual experience—sort of like reading a book, actually—so to meet people who have really dived in with my characters is really wonderful and moving.

One young woman asked me a question I thought was a really good one: She asked what the most difficult part of writing historical fiction was. I told her that the greatest difficulty is that I can't take anything for granted while writing—not the kind of flooring a character walks across or the silhouette of her dress or the height of the skyline framed in her window. But thinking about all those things makes me that much more attentive and my writing that much more purposeful, so it's a challenge I'm happy to have.

While reading from Rumors in front of all these people I felt nervous, but once the format opened up and became a kind of conversation I began to really enjoy it. Having that back and forth is so much better, and I only wished that I had had time to do more of it. So thank you to those of you who came, and for those of you who weren't able to, I'd love to answer any questions you might have—about The Luxe, or writing in general, or whatever!

So far I have only read the first book, The Luxe. It was wonderful I read that book under 12 hours. I couldnt put it down. Im now reading the second, Rumors. I just wanted to express that these book were wonderful. I may be a bit old for these types of books but I love history. And when I read your books I imagine my self as an innocent by-stander. Witnessing all this, its an outstanding series so far. Cant wait for the third!!!!

I would have loved to be at that reading you did! I would really like to talk to you one on one. Your books are so well written. I love how i can really picture these characters in my mind. Hey Anna, I asked this before but, did you pick out the dresses for your covers and pick out the people? The dresses are gorgeous, I love them. The covers of your books make them so appealing!

I've read the Luxe and loved it! It was so hard to put down. I have Rumors, but haven't started reading it yet. For Envy, I was wondering who was going to be on the front? Since so far we've seen Elizabeth in the pink dress and Penelope in the red dress, I've been wondering if Diana would be on the front for the third, and if so what color dress do you think she'll wear? Also are you planning on writing a forth?

Hello! I fell in love with your books and Diana in particular. Did she come from a person you know or a figure in your imagination? Also, I wasn't quite sure what happened at the Hayes-Shoonmaker wedding. What was the cause of the attendee's lack of attention? Thanks!

Hi Anna!! My friend Kelly and I are incredibly in-love with your books! It's nice to be able to read something and wish that you were there along with the characters. I'm sure many, many girls can relate to that. hey...well i think i'm falling for henry >) but i love the henry-diana couple...they are so hot together (: anyway as everybody said..your books are amazing hahaha my question is:i live in colombia lol and my first language is spanish,of course,i read the books in english and i think i understood very well...but i know it be better in spanish..do u think you are going to translate your books? i waiting for the 3th book. if is not in spanish..is there a way i can purchase the3th book from Colombia that is not via internet? Dear Anna,
I must be quite frank, when I decided to read your book, there was no intention on continuing it. In all honesty, I picked up Luxe because I know the girl on the cover of it. After reading it, I was astonished about how much I truly enjoyed it, and encouraged my friends to read it as well. When I read the book, I almost felt myself right there with the characters, it felt so real. I've always felt a drawn to that 1895-1900's time frame. Also, when reading it I feel a great connection with the Vanderbilts, and I've toured many homes they've had. I finished Luxe in three days, and immedietly went to the library to retraive the next book, Rumors. I have faith that it won't let me down, and nor will Envy

Dear Anna, Words cannot express how much I love your books. I have just finished reading both the Luxe and Rumors. I can honestly say that I dream about the book there is so much detail that I can picture myself as one of the characters. I actually purchased the Luxe by chance, mainly because I thought that it looked interesting and I loved the fact that it was based in the 1800's. I can't wait for Envy to come out and see what waits ahead for the Hollands. I do some questions... What inspired you to start writing? Also, Why did you chose this type of setting? Hi Anna, I am doing a project on The Luxe. We were given the choice to choose any book and I chose this one. We are asked to give themes of our chosen book. However, I have found that the themes I have come across seem to contradict other themes. Could you give me an example of a few themes in your book, The Luxe? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I really like what you said in the second paragraph of your entry. I agree, you can't take anything for granted. That's one flaw I have when I write. Sometimes I try to rush everything because I want to get the boring stuff over with and write about the really exciting things I have in mind. But it's true, you have to descibe the little things. I know that wasn't what you had in mind when you said that, you meant you have to know all the little facts. I think that is what makes a good writer, when they take the time to look up everything- including the height of the skyline framed in the character's window. I really admire your writing. Have you published anything before these books? If not, what made you deside to really go for this idea for The Luxe?

I read The Luxe and Rumors within in a day , and I'd have to say that those books are amazing. I'm dissapointed about the ending to Rumors though, I wish that event that happened to Elizabeth wouldn't have happened. I'm the type of person that loves happy endings in books but i understand that you've got to write somethings that you don't want to keep your readers on the edge. I'm hoping for the ending of your next book to have Elizabeth to find another love, and for Diana to end up marrying Henry!! I'm excited to read it.

I read the Luxe 1 one whole day i couldnt put it down!, The ending to rumors made me kind of worried about who is going to end up with who you make wonderful books i read them over and over until i cant anymore your books are so wonderful i cant wait for you next one! hopefully diana is on the cover next time!!!

Is The Luxe going to be medianized (aka turned into a book or movie) because if it is, I would throw a party out of happiness; the clothes are gorgeous times 10! On another note, I was wondering where you get your inspiration from. Are there any people/celebrities in your life who inspire Elizabeth, Penelope, Lina, or Diana? I just wanted to show my support and respect for you. I always have trouble finding books I really like that are historical yet entertaining. Yours was like a breath of fresh air for me, it combines everything I love about books. Penelope reminds me of Scarlett from Gone with The Wind and Elizabeth reminds me of Rose from Titanic. I just want to thank you for adding spice to my reading life and I really admire you. I have one question though on the cover of Rumors is Penelope but you lead me (the readers) to believe it was Diana. Doesnt Penelope have red hair?

Dear Mrs. Godbersen, When I first bought The Luxe-I'll be honest-I couldn't get into it. Then one day I gave it a real chance and I finished in three days and forced my best friend to read it. We both effing LOVE IT! I just started reading Rumors and can't wait for the next book to come out. I love series' because that means I get fall in love with the characters for a while. Please write many of these books because they're amazing! I'm a writer too and hope to grace the bookshelf next to your great works someday!

Anna, how is Envy coming along? I am very excited about it! I feel heart broken over Will, and Henry, and how it affects Diana and Elizabeth. But I beleive your books are the most fascinating, and I will read them till the end! I love how you play human emotions so well, and how you can keep a reader on the edge of her/his seat. Dear Anna, I love your books deeply. Your descriptions are so detailed and well done i feel as though I'm there. I cried so much when Will died its not even funny. I loved him and i thought of how terrible and depressed Elizabeth must feel. I read each book so far around 3 times and I will definitely keep on re-reading it because no matter how many times i read it it continues to surprise me. Anna, I recently read the Luxe for my honor's english class. i thought it was very well written. along with that book, i have started reading the Age of Innocence. it is a lot like the Luxe except yours was a lot better because it is easier to understand and more fun to read. i decided to read your book because my friend had read it and had said that she really enjoyed, and was looking forward to the next one. i liked how it switched off through the book with a different setup of each character and chapter. how their perspectives changed and the setting. that made it very interesting. The Age of Innocence and the Luxe were similar in their story plots, but yours was much easier to read and understand. i enjoyed the characters personalities and that there were so many different things going on at once. i can't wait to read Rumors. --Michaela

Hey Anna! I finished reading Rumors around a month ago, and I am beyond excited for Envy! My favorite pair is Henry and Diana. Please, please, please let them have thir happy ending! And also, please don't make Diana pregnant with Henry's child or anything! That would kill me! I have just started reading the Luxe series. I actually got into the series after reading the twilight saga for the 200th time. I really like the twilight saga, so I decided to give another romance-like novel a try. I have just finished reading the first book of the series, and I think its amazing! i can't wait until I get my hands on a copy of Rumors! I hope its as good as the first book was!
